A chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State and also an academic, Professor Remi Aworemi has described this Yuletide celebration as a season of praise to Almighty God for His blessings and protection since the beginning of the year. He noted that despite the ups and downs, the Lord has been so faithful to keep us alive.

In his Christmas message, Professor Remi Aworemi also called on Christians to imbibe the spirit of love, faithfulness and perseverance which Jesus Christ lived and died for.

The Christmas celebrations, he noted, is an opportunity to reflect on the purpose of the birth of Jesus Christ. He stated that God’s purpose of sending Jesus Christ into the world is to bring salvation to humanity, an action that demonstrates His love for mankind.

The renowned academic equally used the opportunity to encourage citizens of Nigeria to be more proactive in taking measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as the second wave of the pandemic is now here with us.

He urged citizens adhere to all preventive measures being given by Government at all levels and by other health authorities. He said:

"Nigeria cannot survive another round of lockdown. It is therefore very necessary and important that our people follow religiously all COVID-19 protocols."

He continued, "as we celebrate, we should not forget the reason for the season. Let us all exhibit the virtues of love and compassion as epitomised by Jesus Christ."
