The importance of this day is borne out of the fact that our environment is the orbit that revolves around human being and his existence, before human creation, the world have been existing, and it would continue to exist, which means, the environment plays a vital role to man's sustainability.

As the end means or the survival of man comes through this environment (society), and it now becomes imperative for man to protect his community from hazard.

The meeting point was at Falomo Roundabout in Ikoyi, more than 50 patriotic citizens came out to participate in the voluntary exercise, by moving from one street and corners of Ikoyi, by ensuring that our environment is free from dirt and plastic.

In the people centered speech of Hon. Desmond Elliott, being delivered by Alhaja Toro Baiyewu, she says:

1. One million plastic bottles are bought around the world every single minute, and this is avoidable. What is the world we want to leave for future generations?

2. We must not forget that we are part of nature - not apart from it, and act to protect our home and the home of all beings on earth. Need systemic changes to tackle the plastics crisis.

3. Government must set up and create interventions to reduce plastic use, prioritise reusable packaging systems and ensure that companies that generate single use plastic are held accountable.

The Chairman committee on environment respectfully called on the residents of Lagos State to come together and protect their community from the danger that comes with environment. And he appreciated the good initiative of Sweep foundation, verily, our Lagos, is our Lagos.
