Hon. Olayiwola Abdulrahman Akeem gong for party membership registration, as a veritable tool to democratic system

In politics, a political party is an organized group of people who have the same ideology, or who otherwise have the same political positions, and who field candidates for elections, in an attempt to get them elected and thereby implement their agenda.

Party membership is a tool to which the system of that society work for all, it is one of the factors that makes governance of the country to be democratic, by accommodating and sensitizing the citizens towards the importance of party membership and political participation.

To this end, the Supervisor for Finance expressed his feelings on the consequences of shrinking party membership, particularly in many developing democracies, ours is not an exception, while levels of membership have fallen considerably in many developed democracies in the last couple of decades. This development gives rise to concern for various reasons. Which are:

1. Limiting the opportunities for political participation of citizens.

2. Widening the gap between professional politicians and the electorates.

3. Disconnecting the people from the parties and all their services regarding voter education, social activities, and other awareness raising activities.

4. Diminishing the accountability of leaders to followers and decreasing the legitimacy of party leaders and political decisions in general.

5. Lessening popular involvement in and knowledge of political processes and the functioning of political parties in society.

6. Causing misunderstanding of difficult political processes and strengthening party centralization. And equally empowering party leaders due to diminished control through party members.

In this regard, Hon. Olayiwola hope this process of party membership would swing to make us become more stronger and unchallenging going towards the forthcoming election, which is unarguably our world to win. And in APC, democracy and good governance lives. Join us as we build Nigeria together.
